Cadance reads your running cadence and adjusts the tempo of your Apple Music to match it. This policy explains what the app uses, what leaves your phone, and how to have your data deleted.
what stays on your phone
- Motion. The accelerometer is used to measure your cadence while you run.
- Music and taste. Cadance uses Apple Music to play songs and adjust their tempo. What it learns about your taste, from your library and from the songs you keep or skip, stays on the phone.
- Location. Location is used only during a run: to measure distance, to tell a real change of speed from noise, and to keep the app running in your pocket. There is no map, no live tracking, and no use when you are not running.
- Spotify (optional). If you connect Spotify, Cadance reads it once to learn what you like. It never posts, follows, or changes anything in your account.
what is sent
After each run the app sends a run log: cadence over time, speed, distance, the songs played and how their tempo was adjusted, and which songs were skipped. We use these logs only to improve Cadance. If the app crashes, the next run log also carries the crash report iOS gives the app: when it happened, where in the app's code it stopped, the phone model and the iOS version. It contains nothing about you. A short summary of each run (the handle, distance, cadence, and songs) also reaches our email inbox (Google Workspace). The app says so on its welcome screen.
A run log does not contain your route, location, name, email, contacts, photos, or any advertising identifier. It carries one short handle that the app makes up (for example fox-42) so we can match a log to your feedback. You can change the handle in the app. If you change it to your real name, your real name is sent with your runs.
beta signups
If you sign up on getcadance.com, we keep your email address, whether you asked to join the beta or only to receive updates, and the date you signed up. We use it only to send your beta invitation or news about Cadance. A copy is kept in our email inbox (Google Workspace) so we can write to you.
storage and sharing
Run logs and signups are stored in private cloud storage (Vercel) that can be read only with a key held by the developer. The key inside the app can only send runs and download the published song library. It cannot read stored data.
We do not sell your data, share it with anyone, or use it for advertising. The app has no analytics or tracking libraries. Beta run logs are deleted when the beta ends.
A correction about data sent before 16 September 2026. Before that date, the key inside the app could also read stored logs, and a short summary of each run could be found by someone who knew when the run started. We have found no evidence that anyone accessed this data. Runs sent before that date are being moved to private storage and deleted from the old location. Logs sent before 12 September 2026 also include the route.
your choices
Email us to have your run logs or your signup deleted. We will confirm when it is done. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone.
children
Cadance is not directed at children under 13.
